PHASES OF THE MOON - INUIT LEGEND

Long ago, in a village on the Yukon River, they lived four brothers and one sister. The youngest of the brothers was the playmate of the child. The other brothers were great hunters and in the fall they moved to the coast, since they lived near the sea, and in the spring were going to the mountains to hunt reindeer. The younger brother never went with them because others considered him slow and sluggish.


One night the brothers arrived in the village, exhausted after a day of hunting, she fared bring food to Kashim (House of Assembly), where hunters slept. As he did, the younger brother saw what he was doing and went to alert his older brothers:


"Our sister is climbing into the sky! Our sister is climbing into the sky! "
