Truth and Falsehood

This traditional Filipino story explains the importance of being honest and kind through the story of two men: Truth and Falsehood.


Philippine long time ago, in a calm and sunny day, Mr. Truth left his village to the city to find work. Truth came out with his horse without much luggage, so traveling very fast. But suddenly, by the way, he met with Mr. Falsehood, which, coincidentally, also went to the city in search of work.


- Truth Oh, my trip is so hard without a horse and carrying luggage behind me ... Would you be so kind as to let out and share with you riding?


How Truth was so good man, he said yes without thinking twice. And together they continued their way to the city. During the trip the two men spoke very excited about what kind of work they wanted to find in the city:


- I want to be a secretary, so I can always go well dressed and clean Truth said.
- Well, I cook, to be always surrounded by food to devour said falsity.


And so, chatting, they continued walking.


Suddenly, they came across a man who bore a poor lifeless body to the cemetery. The man had no help and Truth dismounted and helped. Once buried the body, Truth asked:


- Have you already prayed for the soul of this poor man can rest?
- No 'I replied the man, I do not know how to pray and have no money for a priest to do so.


Then truth, very honestly, gave the man all the money I had so I could pay the priest and buy candles and give thus the eternal rest to the poor dead man.


And so, without money, they continued his journey.


When dinner time came, Falsehood was very angry with Truth for giving all your money. So, as they could not buy dinner, they decided to approach the river to fish. When they arrived, they saw that some fish had been caught in a puddle. Fish and fish caught falsehood, but truth felt very sorry for the poor animals and took only necessary to feed, returning the rest to the river. It was then that Falsehood murmured


- If you were going to waste it would have been better than I cogiera all and have left none.


Indeed, with all his goodness, he did not respond to such words and decided to get the rest.


And so the next morning, they resumed their journey.


As they crossed the forest they heard about them an awful sound. Truth decided to see what was happening, but Falsehood, trembling with fear, remained hidden behind a stone on the road. When Truth came to the origin of the noise, he discovered that these were small eagles nest high in a well. They were crying because they were hungry, but did not see the mother anywhere. Truth then, he felt very sorry for the poor hungry animals, decided to sacrifice his tired old horse to feed and spread the rest of the meat around the mother tree to find the way back. Truth hated falsehood because now had to walk.


And so, with angry Falsehood, they went their way to the city.


Once there, they appeared before the king, asking to take his service as secretary and one another as cook. I rejoiced when they said yes! But then, Falsehood began to feel envious of his neighbor, because Truth always sat with King to eat and was always clean and well dressed while he was dirty and had to eat in the kitchen. Then I was furious and decided to do something to hurt your friend.


One day, in which the Kings had come to sail the sea, when they were well away from land, the Queen lost her ring overboard. When Falsehood found out, he went to talk to the King:


- My King, a friend, who is his secretary, says he has magical powers and can find the ring of the Queen. He says he would make a bet with you, that if you do not find the ring, hanging command them.


The King, surprised by those words, sent for Truth:


- Encontrad ring Queen this afternoon or I'll have you hanged at dawn.


Indeed, he terrified by these words, fell down to the beach and sat down to watch the ocean. But he realized that it was impossible to recover the ring and began to mourn. Then a fish came to him and asked:


- Why are you crying?
- I cry because the King will hang at dawn if I can not find the ring that the queen lost at sea.


And the fish went to, after a while, return to the ring in his mouth.


- I'm one of the fish that saved that day on the river. As you helped me, I will now help you.


And so Truth escaped and Queen regained his ring.


But Falsehood other day told King:


- My King, remember what happened the other day?
- Of course. And now I believe in you, and thanks to your words I regained my wife's ring.
- Well, my friend, the other night, said he was a great magician. As well, he said, that you could hang it would not hurt him.


At these words, the King sent for Truth.


- As you are so good magician, tomorrow I'll hang in front of everyone, so that they prove.


Truth poor spent all night thinking about what was going to happen and could not help crying. Then, a spirit appeared.


- Do not cry Truth. Tomorrow I will wear your clothes and I will hang myself.


The next day many people saw it hanging Truth and thinking it was much more surprised when, at noon, they saw Truth sitting at the table. That same night the spirit came and explained:


- You saved my soul one day and now I will save you.


And so Truth be saved.


But Falsehood was increasingly jealous of his friend and one morning he told the king:


- Lord, the next day his secretary said that if you dejabais will marry his daughter, he would give you three grandchildren in one night.


And the King sent for Truth:


- I will marry my daughter, but if you do not give me three grandchildren in one night, I will send hanged.


The next day the Princess and Truth were married. But at night the poor truth could not sleep, thinking that the next day he would die. But suddenly an eagle came through the window and promised to handle the matter. Just before dawn, three eagles were carrying a child each.


- You saved our lives by sacrificing your horse, so now we'll save her yourself.


When the king heard the children mourn, happiness seized him. Finally he had heirs to the throne! So the king made a great feast and handed the crown to Truth.


And so our friend, being honest, able to be king, while Falsehood, with his lies, failed to feed the success of your partner.
